Parks and Green Spaces Levy – On the Ballot in November

The Parks and Green Spaces Levy will be on the ballot this November.

Jackson Park Trail
Funding for a Jackson Park Trail is not part of the levy package. However, the levy committee made the following recommendation that was adopted by Seattle City Council:

Section 7. Broaden the Use of City Golf Courses. The Council requests that the Department add a task to its Strategic Action Plan2009 implementation work program to assess the use of proceeds from the City’s golf course operations to pay for multi-purpose improvements at City golf courses such as perimeter trails.

Also, the levy would set aside funds for “opportunity” projects. If we can not find funds for a Jackson Park trail from other sources, we could apply for levy money from the opportunity fund.

This is all good news for the Jackson Park Trail project.

Northgate Urban Center Park
If the levy passes, it would fund $2,500,000 toward the new Northgate Urban Center Park.

Maple Leaf Park
If the levy passes, it would fund $5,000,000 toward the new Maple Leaf Park that will be built when the Maple Leaf Reservoir is lidded.

You can read more at the Seattle City Council levy site and at the Seattle Times.
