Preschool Teacher Opening For Fall 2010 at Meadowbrook 3-5s Cooperative Preschool

I received an email on this teacher opening recently.  The co-op is in the Lake City Christian Church at the corner of 125th and 20th NE.   The deadline for the application is March 5th and information on how to apply is at the bottom of the post.

Meadowbrook 3-5s Cooperative Preschool is looking for a nurturing, motivated and creative teacher to join our community and teach our 3 to 5 year age class. This fun class will meet onMondays from 12:30-3 and Tuesday – Thursday from 9:15-11:45.

Required Qualifications

  • Prior experience teaching preschool age children
  • Experience developing and implementing age appropriate curriculum
  • Ability and enthusiasm for attending monthly parent meetings
  • Excellent communication skills with both children and adults
  • Prior experience promoting social skills, emotional growth and anti-bias curriculum

Desired Qualifications

  • Degree in Early Childhood Education
  • Experience as a preschool teacher with demonstrated ability to explain and delegate classroom responsibilities to teaching assistants.
  • Experience working at a cooperative preschool and/or with parents in the classroom.
  • A strong commitment to promoting communication between families and the teachers
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including but not limited to ESL families.

Position Specifics:

The teacher’s role in our parent cooperative program requires working closely with both the parents and their children. The teacher provides an environment for children to grow emotionally, intellectually, socially, and physically. The teacher provides the parents with direction and serves as a model for working with young children.  Meadowbrook 3-5s Preschool has a contract with North Seattle Community College’s Parent Education Program, which provides a Parent Education Instructor, program and risk management guidelines to the preschool, as well as monthly preschool teacher meetings.

Duties include:

  • Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum. The curriculum should include a variety of first-hand experiences that will enhance and encourage the children’s development and a predictable but flexible schedule for the children that allows for a balance of active and quiet play.
  • Share/communicate curriculum with parents on a daily, weekly and monthly basis via email, in person and in newsletter. Orient parents to the role of assistant teacher. Supervise parents in the daily operation of the classroom.
  • Partner with other Meadowbrook Preschool Teachers to create a curriculum that enables children to build skills and experiences from year to year as they move through the 3-year program.
  • Manage materials and resources for the children’s activities. Make recommendations to the board for purchasing equipment and supplies for the school.
  • Work/consult with the NSCC Parent Education Instructor to operate a high quality children’s program.
  • Serve as a team member, along with the Instructor and child’s parent, to develop individual goals for the child.
  • Conduct beginning of year home visits to orient each child and parent.
  • Attend monthly board and parent meetings (which usually occur evenings).
  • Participate in school events (usually 4-5 each year).
  • Attend to light administrative duties, including writing teacher evaluations for children applying to other schools
  • Develop a yearly professional development plan to share with the parent education instructor and the cooperative board.
  • Follow Health and Safety guidelines included in the Risk Management Manual.
  • Submit to ADA requirements, including being able to lift and carry 35-60 lbs.
  • CPR Certified or receive NSCC Certification via the college’s CPR/First Aid class.
