Pinehurst Car Burglary

From Andrea:

FYI. This is to let everyone know that my car was broken into late Sunday-early Monday 6/27-6/28. They broke the driver’s window, stole two new tents, several Lake City Library DVDs & several other small items of very little worth.

This is the 3rd time since February, 2010 that my car has been burgled. In February, several other cars along 117th Street & 22nd St. were also broken into. Each time this has occurred to others & myself, it was between the 25th & the end of the month.

This was sent out to the email list earlier so many people would have already seen it.  I wanted to post it here for for future comments and discussion too.

We had some outdoor speakers taken from the climbing wall in our back yard. They were well hidden and completely behind our house. This was a few weeks ago and haven’t had any problems since. Although, we never leave valuables in our car. That is probably a good idea for anyone anywhere. There is a weird truck that parks in the parking lot of the church on 127th and 8th that I’ve never seen before. He seems to be parking there every night and sleeping in his truck.

My neighbor and I both had our cars “rummaged” the same night as Andrea reports late 6/27 or early morning 6/28. We leave our cars unlocked and there was NOTHING of value in them (lots of dog hair, though). No broken windows, just opened doors and trunks. I noticed another car with open doors when I was walking the dog early in the morning also. I’m torn. I’d rather have rummaging and no broken windows… and I never leave anything of value in the car.

This is a message from the police, from this month’s North Precinct Advisory Council: Don’t leave your garage door opener in your car if you leave the car doors unlocked; that’s a great way for thieves to get into your house if you have an attached garage.

  • Good point. Or I would assume, to get to anything you store in your garage even if it isn’t attached…

We had our cars rummaged through up on 123rd street on the same night. This has been a common experience for us over the past 15 years (unfortunately) and we stopped locking the doors after two broken windows and one knifed convertible top.
