Less Secret Election This Year?

What: King Conservation District Election (King CD)
When: February 15, 2011 and ends at 9 pm March 15
Where: Online this year!

I wrote about what I called a secret election last year where you had to make it downtown or to one of 6 other libraries in the middle of the day on a Tuesday in order to vote.  Looking back, I was just caught by surprise because I had never heard of the position and only got to vote because I was downtown for jury duty.  This special election was for a Board of Supervisors position in the King Conservation District (King CD). For various reasons the turnout was very low (4200 people) but it was also climbing quickly from previous years (2,757 in 2009, 198 in 2008) and I wondered where the tipping point was in the cost of an election like that vs. getting it on a normal ballot.

It’s still going to be difficult to get to word out and create interest but it should be easier for a lot of people this time around. They’re moving the voting online and voting period will last for 30 days.

The King Conservation District (King CD) will be holding a public election for the Board of Supervisor position #2. This election will feature new, convenient and secure on-line voting. Voting begins February 15, 2011 and ends at 9 pm March 15, 2011. Click here for more information.

To be eligible to vote, you must be registered to vote in King County (excluding residents of cities that are not members of the King Conservation District: Enumclaw, Federal Way, Milton, Pacific and Skykomish).

In addition to the 30-day online voting period, the district will also provide a one-day, in-person voting option at the King CD’s Renton office on March 15 between 9 am and 9 pm. The King CD is located at 1107 SW Grady Way, Suite 130, in Renton.
