HandsOn! Skills Fair February 11

Seventh Annual Skills Fair – Feb 11, 2017

Sustainable NE Seattle is collaborating with Meadowbrook Community Center to offer its 7th annual HANDS ON! community skills–share fair. FREE all day! See the schedule here: Workshop Schedule

In addition to these workshops, it will once again have the open market area featuring: Tool sharpening (bring your tools); bike repair (bring your bike); clothing exchange (bring clothes to exchange); fermentation station (bring your extra SCOBYs/mothers).

What is a skills fair?

A day of sharing practical skills with neighbors – there will be short workshops on a wide variety of skills, from knitting to basic carpentry to soil building. The day will include a homemade soup luncheon with speaker Bill Thorness, author, editor and freelance writer. He has written two gardening books, a bicycling guidebook (now in its 2nd edition), a business-leader’s profile and numerous articles for periodicals and web publications, also a veteran book, magazine and web editor. In January 2014 Bill was honored with the Sustainable Hero award from Sustainable Seattle, primarily for his work in 2013 on the Solarize Seattle: Northwest campaign.

When?

Saturday, Feb 11th, 2017
Skills from 10-5, Lunch at 12:30

Where?

Meadowbrook Community Center, 10517 35th Ave NE

Why?

  • Building resilience – If we can build a neighborhood where we know how to take care of our needs close to home – we are more likely to do well in difficult times
  • Growing Community – If we work together, share resources, eat and celebrate together, our community fabric grows stronger!
  • Reducing waste – if we can re-purpose that old sweater, it stays out of the landfill.
