Lake City Floodplain Park Workshop #2

Join Seattle Parks and Recreation, Seattle Public Utilities, and Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group for the second of three virtual workshops on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm to co-create a new park space (the large ‘red house’ property on NE125th St and 23rd) with the Lake City community, for the Lake City community. Sewer System Smoke Testing

As part of the Thornton Creek Basin Sewer Study and Upgrade Project, King County Wastewater Treatment Division is conducting smoke testing in part of Pinehurst east of 15th Ave NE this summer to locate problem areas within the local sewer system that connects to the County’s Thornton Creek sewer pipe. If you are in the test area (see map below – which is admittedly vague), you will receive a notification letter in the mail. They will leave a notice on your property one to three working days before testing occurs in your area. Field crews will also post signs on nearby streets to indicate when smoke testing is in progress. For more information about the testing click here.

Lake City Farmers Market Starts June 16

Lake City Farmers Market starts this Thursday, June 16: 3:00-7:00 pm in front of the library (NE 125th and 28th Ave NE)! It will run on Thursdays through October 6th.

Families do their Thursday evening shopping while keeping an eye on children enjoying numerous market activities hosted by community partners. To serve its diverse neighbors, the Lake City Farmers Market features unique offerings and seasonal ingredients grown and prepared by local farms and food artisans.

The guest speaker, Dr. Jacqueline Helfgott, Director of Seattle U’s Crime & Justice Research Center, presented findings from the 2021 Micro-Community Policing Plan research.

2022 Seattle Night Out – Tuesday, August 2nd

Night Out is on Tuesday, August 2nd, this year. It’s a national event promoted in Seattle by Seattle Police Department Crime Prevention. It’s designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, increase neighborhood support in anti-crime efforts, and unite our communities.

Contact our precinct’s Crime Prevention Coordinators (https://www.seattle.gov/…/crime-prevention-coordinators) with questions or requests. You can ask for a police officer to stop by for a chat, but keep in mind, due to staffing and call loads, SPD participation in Night Out may be limited.

You can also ask the Fire Department to send a fire truck – always a kid-pleaser.

Pinehurst Snapshot of Active & Sold Homes in Last 30 Days

Here is a map of the last 30 days active (black) and sold (red) homes in Pinehurst. The sold single family homes ranged from $541,000 to $1,900,000. Sold condos ranged from $370,000 to $550,000. John Lombard, a local Windermere RE agent, makes this custom map for us.

North Precinct Advisory Council Minutes for May 2022

North Precinct Advisory Council’s May 4 meeting: Captain Grossman says crime in the NP is up 14% over last year. Violent crime up 36%; shots fired up 97%; property crime up 12%; burglary down 7%; motor vehicle theft up 59%. The precinct is still short on staff and can’t handle 911 calls in a timely manner.

Kids’ Art in Pinehurst Pocket Park

Happy May! This month’s art in Pinehurst Pocket Park is by 9 year old Naima, who painted it at art camp earlier this year. What a wonderful water scene – watch out for that wave! May 7 is opening day of Seattle’s boating season. Thanks, Naima, for beautifying our little park! Come see the painting in the kiosk at NE 117th St & 19th Ave NE.

North Precinct Advisory Council Minutes for April 2022

The guest speaker at NPAC this month was City Attorney Office’s Deputy Attorney Scott Lindsay. He enumerated the office’s new priorities, including reviewing and filing cases within 5 business days and focusing on high utilizers (people who are repeatedly reported to CAO and have a disproportionate impact on public safety.)
