Help make Jackson Park Trail a reality

We are working on a grant application (due January 12th) that would pay for a professional consultant (likely a landscape design firm) to work with our community to develop a more comprehensive design for Jackson Park Trail. The Seattle Department of Neighborhoods Matching Fund program is very generous and would pay much of the cost for the consultant (estimated to cost between $10,000 and $15,000) if we can match what the city pays in volunteer time and contributions.

You can read more about Jackson Park Trail here. And, you can read more about the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods Matching Fund program here.

We need to raise about $7,500 in volunteer time pledges (at $15/hour) and/or cash contribution pledges.

For folks who can volunteer time, here are some of the ways you could help (timeline, hours):

  • Steering committee to oversee the project/grant (April to October 2009, a few hours each month)
  • Committee to select the design firm we would work with (April/May 2009, perhaps 10 hours)
  • Outreach to get the word out to community members about the project (April to October 2009, a few hours each month with more time in earlier months than in later months)
  • Attend community meetings soliciting input on the project (June to October, about 2 hours per meeting)

We already have over $2,500 in pledged cash and volunteer time donations. But, to be able to submit the grant, we need $5,000 more in pledges

A volunteer match pledge form is available here. If you are inclined, if you could complete the form and mail (let me know and I will send my address) or e-mail it to me, I would be very grateful.

Thank you for your commitment to our community and don’t hesitate to give a shout if you have any questions.
