A Call for Candidates for President and Vice President of the Pinehurst Community Council

from Garth Ferber:

In the late 1990’s I felt that I wanted to Pinehurst residents to be able to have a synergistic positive effect our neighborhood. Richard Lewis was President of the PCC at the time and he was interested to see the position filled by a someone with new energy and ideas. So I was voted to be the new president of the PCC. I am not sure of the exact year but the first PCC meeting minutes that I have are from June 1997.

Now I have memories of many people and many events and many accomplishments here in Pinehurst. Changes in the past few years include traffic islands, crosswalks, sidewalks, playfield upgrades and a new park. Lorna Mrachek (current PCC Vice President) is managing the current project to upgrade the shelter house at the Pinehurst Playfield. The new Safeway should be a catalyst for more positive change in the Pinehurst business district. Pinehurst is now on the radar of city officials and employees and our neighborhood remains a prime place for positive change in Seattle.

It is time for a change in the leadership of the PCC. The PCC bylaws state that at the last regular meeting of the calendar year, nominations shall be accepted and that the President and Vice President shall be elected for the following year by a majority vote. The bylaws also state that it is the duty of the President to publicize and fairly administer the meeting of the PCC. It is also been helpful for the President to coordinate with our representatives to the North Police Precinct and North District Council, and the representatives of other projects in Pinehurst.

I suggest that anyone that is interested in either the position of President of Vice President of the PCC submit an up to 100 word statement to Renee by 13 October of why they would like to take on the role. Renee can publish these on the blog and they can also be read at the meeting, and questions can be answered as well at the meeting.

I hope to see you at the election and meeting at Amante Pizza on 26 October at 7 PM (tentative – the blog will be updated as the meeting is finalized).

Cheers,

Garth Ferber
President Pinehurst Community Council
