Eritrean Church Community Space Project

The Eritrean Orthodox Church is working with the Pinehurst Community Council and the North District Council and they’re looking to remodel their basement to make it into a more useful space for the community.  They currently run a lot of programs from it (including tutoring, community dinners, and health fairs) but there are a lot of improvements that can be made.
They are applying for a small grant to hire a consultant/architect to help run some meetings with the community and create the plans based on the feedback.  There are multiple ways people can get involved:
1. Join the steering committee to help guide the project.
This can be as little or as much work as people want.  Honest.  Everything from helping with outreach to feedback via email/phone.
2. Commit to attending the community meetings.
This is actually very important because not only is this going to be the main form of feedback but it counts as volunteering and we need a certain number of volunteer hours to match the grant.  We are currently planning on two meetings at about two hours each and we’re asking people to commit whatever they feel comfortable with.
It’s also very easy.  All it takes is an email with your Name/Address/Zip/Phone/Email and what level of involvement you want.

Members of the church have previously attended Pinehurst Community Council meetings and they have been the subject of many posts including their community dinners, their public community health fairs, their tutoring programs, and their involvement in the Victory Creek Clean and Green.

I’d like to volunteer to help out. Let me know when the meetings are going to be.

  • If you wanted to email me (phillip@pinehurstseattle.org) with your info it won’t be used for anything except letting you know about the meetings. But then we can count your volunteering towards the grant which is one of the most helpful parts.

Also, it’s not a binding contract. Obviously we want everybody to show up who can. But we understand if the schedule of the meetings doesn’t work for somebody.

Depending on the date and time of your meetings, I would be glad to attend. I would also like to visit the space–never having visited the church–Please let me know. Thanks

  • Hi, is there an email address to which we can send news releases and other information that may be of interest to your readers?

    Many thanks,
