Mail Theft Suspects Caught in Pinehurst

Early on December 28th,  a man and a woman were apprehended in the act of stealing mail in north Pinehurst. See the story here. From the list of mail items found in their car – credit cards, checks, gift cards, IRS mail, Netflix movies, it appears that as long as such items go through the mail system and end up in mail boxes that are not secure, mail theft will continue to be a lucrative crime. 🙁

My mail has been stolen a few times in recent months (including this week). I need to finally get a secured mailbox with my neighbors.

Since our mail never seems to arrive before 5pm these days, we’re lucky in that it isn’t sitting in the box for very long before we retrieve it. Perhaps this is an unexpected bonus of the troubled state of USPS? 🙂

The silver linings in this case are that the two suspects are not neighbors but are from Edmonds, and that the Postal Police have been notified which means these repeat offenders (eight prior charges for the 19 year old female, 16 for the 21 year old and of those sixteen ten were within the last six months) could be in federal prison for two to five years.

I read the article from the police blotter – good job by the officers from the Seattle Police Department! I live on 24th
Ave. N.E. and several of us have had mail stolen. With all of the negative stuff out there about the police department it sure is good to hear something positive about them. The other day I was on my way into the Post Office in Lake City, a police officer was ahead of me, he held the door open and smiled until I caught up to the door, made this senior feel good that morning! I realize like any group of people the SPD has problems, but there is not enough money in the world to get me to do the job they do!
