North Precinct Advisory Council Minutes – June 2015

SPDbadgeThis month’s special topic at the North Precinct Advisory Council was sex offenders. A Seattle Police detective and a WA State Department of Corrections officer spoke. They described the three risk levels of offenders who have been released from jail/prison, conditions they have to comply with while on supervision (used to be parole), and required neighbor notifications.

The Captain spoke about crime trends. Property crimes are down, including burglary, car prowl and car theft. Crimes against persons are up, such as groups of youths taking electronics, jewelry and wallets from other youths.

There is an uptick in car/camper camping in the outlying areas of Seattle such as the North Precinct. Police have few tools to do anything about it. They are collaborating with SDOT, Mayor’s office and the City Attorney’s office to see if there are any creative solutions to problems this camping causes (such as garbage, urination).
