Who is trick-or-treating in Pinehurst?

Halloween is just a week away. Who will be welcoming trick-or-treaters to their homes? Who will be visiting neighbors with their children to celebrate the holiday?

We moved to Pinehurst on Halloween Eve 11 years ago. Our house smelled like fresh latex paint from all the painting we had done before we moved in and more than one trick-or-treater commented in it! My son was a baby when we moved in and he is now in middle school. We have spent all but one Halloween at home visiting neighbors and giving out candy here in Pinehurst. This year, we have invitations to go to parties outside of the neighborhood. But, I can’t bring myself to leave Pinehurst especially on Halloween. It is one night that we see so many neighbors and their children and see how many more children there are in Pinehurst today compared with 11 years ago.

We've been here almost 9 years, and hardly ever got any little goblins knocking on our door, maybe 3 or 4 groups at most.* And now that our daughter is old enough to get into it, she wants to go with her buddy in another neighborhood, but maybe next year we'll get them to come over here. Seems like there's more kids all the time.

*A couple of years ago we got a group of 3 young adolescent guys without costumes. I finally got to say "Aren't you guys getting a little old for this?" Next I'll be telling them they can't have their ball back, I guess.

This is my first Halloween in Pinehurst and I plan to be home. I can't wait in fact. I've been in an apartment in Lake City the last couple years and nobody came by so I'm really looking forward to it.

When I was growing up my parents used to get an INSANE number of kids on Queen Anne. I'm sure the 18 hours of setup for the decorations probably helped them stand out though…

Like John, we rarely get more than 2 or 3 TOTs for Halloween. This year, though, I have a "plan." My neighbor has a nephew staying with him while he finds a job. Nephew is a theatre guy and I suggested that he decorate the Dead End sign at the end of the street — if a couple of houses on our cul de sac have lights and pumkins etc I think maybe we'll lure a few folks up the hill….

We only got 5 trick or treaters, but my favorite was a little one named Maya in a long orange wig who asked me, "May I come inside?" That cracked me up.

I got nearly 30 trick or treaters. (Kids, not including parents) Next year I hope to add some more decorations and make it more visible from down the street which should hopefully help too.

    Phillip –

The kids loved coming to your place! Nice job.

We got about 30 kids as well. And it seemed like there were more kids out than we have seen in past years.
